My Broken Epileptic Brain

Welcome to my blog. I started this blog because I have been living with Epilespy for many years and want to share my story. I hope to share my story of Epilespy and many other parts of my life.

Where it all began with my epileptic broken brain

Where it all began with my epileptic broken brain

Yes that is my brain!

This all began quite a long time ago. My brain has had this hole in it for many year and naturally affected the brain in many ways .

From a brain tumour operation to epilepsy many years later, this hole in my brain naturally has had a huge impact on me .

Brain tumour

The tumour was a Choroid Plexus Papillioma tumour to be more specific. It was found in my head when I was 7 years old and was removed very quickly after being discovered.

The MRI below shows my 7 year old brain not at all looking like it should.

The discovery of this tumour was very much thanks to my mum. She saw the side effects and ways in which my development of a young child was not how it was supposed to be. She spoke to numerous doctors. Doctor after doctor told her my development as a child was just slower than must children development but I was going to be fine. Turns out there was quite a bit more going on.

My main side effects it showed at first included:

  • Poor ability to walk properly and lack of balance

  • Tremor in my right hand

  • Being sick

  • Gradually showing that part of my face was drooping down

  • bad at processing language

MRI when I was 7

But after seeing an amazing neurologist when these side effects were very clear they finally took me for an MRI and very quickly discovered the problem.

After just a couple of days the operation went ahead and the tumour was removed.

After Operation

Yes there was an after effect. When someone is removing something from your brain regardless of how successful they are you are still very likely to be left with damage to your brain.

But there were many positive outcomes to the operation that must also be acknowledge. My tumour was benign which is incredibly lucky.

Of course my brain. was now going to be different but I was lucky to know I was now leaving that hospital with something so damaging now gone forever.

The MRI below is a picture of my brain recently after this tumour has been removed.

It is always quite funny to think that even though that operation was so long ago there will always be a hole in my brain!

That is the overall basic story of my brain tumour when I was younger but now my medical problems now are more because of epilepsy that was caused due to this tumour.

Epilepsy

Epilepsy can be caused by many things. Some inherit it, some have injuries that lead to it or perhaps an infection that leads to Epilespy. There are many other ways someone can end up with epilepsy. For me this epilepsy was caused due to this brain tumour being removed when I was seven.

I am left now with an on going problem with Epilespy. There are many different types of epilepsy but for me I have focal point epilepsy.

Not a lot of people are always aware of this type of Epilespy. To be honest I had never heard about it till I was diagnosed with it!

One of my earlier posts My epilepsy explains completely what my kind of epilepsy is like.

There are so many different types of epilepsy and so many different ways it effects people that my earlier posts shows that when I say I have Epilespy what is it really like.

My story of my broken brain began with this hole in my brain and continues with my Epilespy and I want to share this story.

It is one of those cases where when you look at someone from the outside you can’t see or know what really is going on inside.

But when you see MRI’s like this you see the understandable problems and causes of Epilespy this can lead to.

I hope this is a quick explanation of where it all began with my medical fun problems I have been having with my broken brain!
